Remembering O-Sensei: Living and Training with Morihei Ueshiba, Founder of Aikido by Perry,
Morihei Ueshiba (1883-1969) was the founder of the Japanese martial art of aikido and is considered one of the greatest and most beloved martial artists of all time. Remembering O-Sensei is a portrait of Ueshiba as told by his uchi-deshi, the students who lived and trained with him as his disciples. This landmark collection of memories and reminiscences captures the essence of this extraordinary martial arts master, revealing his unique teaching style, his philosophy of life, his daily habits, the often quirky and humorous aspects of his personality, and his deep belief that aikido could be used as a means to creating peace and harmony in the world. Remembering O-Sensei also provides a snapshot of a fascinating time in the history of Japanese martial arts when a student would "apprentice" with his master by essentially moving in with him and receiving instruction through rigorous training sessions and also by serving him and observing his actions in daily life. Most of the students whose remembrances are included in this book went on to spread the teachings of aikido throughout the world and became masters in their own right. The fact that their reflections have been gathered in one collection is in itself of extraordinary interest to martial artists. The vignettes in this collection will inspire both martial artists and anyone who wants to learn how to live fearlessly and with compassion.

Progressive Aikido: The Essential Elements
Progressive Aikido: The Essential Elements
Aikido was developed by Morihei Ueshiba, who drew on Japan's rich history of martial arts to develop an entirely new system that preserves the classical tradition within a contemporary context. In Progressive Aikido, Moriteru Ueshiba, the grandson of the founder and the third Doshu (living symbol and embodiment of the spirit of Aikido), focuses on the most fundamental principle of Aikido: proper movement. Using hundreds of photographs and readily accessible explanations, Ueshiba shows how this crucial technique is the basis for all training, whether as a beginner or as a senior instructor. The book is based on a systematic, step-by-step approach that emphasizes proper movement to train in a range of Aikido techniques, from basic to advanced.
